A LITTER of baby rabbits are continuing to thrive after their stray mother unexpectedly gave birth over Easter.
Hopping about together and performing ‘binkies’, the seven babies are now four weeks old and developing quickly.
Having outgrown their home with foster carer Sue Greatrex in Dines Green, they have been moved to a bigger hutch with a foster carer in Malvern.
Their mother Fleur, a small Sable, gave RSPCA officers a surprise when they expected to collect just the one rabbit from a veterinary practice in Tenbury Wells.
When they arrived, Fleur had given birth to a litter after it is believed the stray domesticated pet was impregnated by a wild rabbit.
Volunteer Margaret Layland, RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire branch small animals rehoming co-ordinator, said the rabbits were already behaving like tame rabbits.
“They are growing really well.
“They enjoy running around and doing ‘binkies’ – jumping and twisting in the air. It will be another four to six weeks before they can be rehomed but people can still reserve them.”
Following an article in your Worcester News about their surprise birth, the local branch has managed to rehome 26 rabbits.
There are a further 28 rabbits waiting for new homes, as well as two guinea pigs, two budgies and two cockatiels.
