A FOOTBALL fan arrested following disorder at a Kidderminster Harriers match on Saturday has been charged with two offences.

The fan, in his 20s, will appear before Kidderminster magistrates on May 9 charged with assault and going on to the playing area at a football match.

Trouble flared early in the second half of Harriers’ crunch Blue Square Bet Premier clash with Stockport County at Aggborough which the Worcestershire club needed to win to stand any chance of clinching automatic promotion.

But shortly after Harriers went 1-0 up the game was halted for around 25 minutes when a small number of visiting fans entered the pitch.

West Mercia Police says it maintained “a large presence” in the area after the match with no further arrests made.

Officers will now continue to work with both clubs, match officials and colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to identify those responsible for the disorder.

The arrested man, who was among the Stockport fans, was bailed.

Part of his bail conditions mean he is not allowed to attend any football matches.

More than 6,000 fans packed into Aggborough for the clash, which Harriers won 4-0.

The victory, however, was not enough to clinch automatic promotion as rivals Mansfield also won to secure top spot.

Harriers now face Wrexham in the play-offs with the first leg in North Wales tomorrow evening.

The result meant Stockport, a former Championship side, were relegated to Conference North.
