A PENSIONER is in a critical condition after suffering serious injuries in a two-car crash in Kidderminster.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after part of the A448 Comberton Road was closed at about 2.15pm yesterday afternoon following a collision between a VW Golf and a Renault Megane near the junction with Hillgrove Crescent.

Firefighters cut off the roof of the Golf due to concern for the condition of the occupants - a man in his 80s who was the driver and a woman in her late 70s who was a front seat passenger. Both are from Kidderminster.

The woman was flown to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries and she remains there in a critical but stable condition.

The driver was taken by ambulance to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital with a chest injury and is in a stable condition.

The driver of the Megane, a woman from Worcester, and her passenger, a man from Kidderminster, both in their 20s, were also taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital suffering from whiplash injuries, but were later discharged.

Diversions were put in place until the road was reopened at around 6pm.

Sgt Tony Bush said: “This collision has resulted in some serious injuries and a full investigation is under way into the circumstances.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw it happen or noticed either of the vehicles involved beforehand.”
