A WORCESTERSHIRE runner is safe and sound after completing the Boston Marathon before two deadly explosions struck.
Bromsgrove resident David Daniel was back in his hotel by the time yesterday's blasts hit spectators and competitors close to the finish line.
The 54-year-old father-of-three, a member of Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletics Club, called his wife back home in Worcestershire to let him know he was safe.
“It was obviously a very stressful time for the family,” said the Athletics Club’s press officer Cathryn Worth.
“His wife spoke to Daniel last night. He got over the finish line and was back at his hotel before the blasts.”
The runner was due to return to the UK today but was expected to be delayed because of the flight restrictions over the north-eastern city.
David completed the Boston course in an impressive time of three hours, 24 minutes.
He has previously run the London, Berlin and Paris marathons.
The blasts killed three people and injured more than 100 others.
