THE memory of a “fit and feisty” Pershore woman who died after a short battle with cancer will live on in the form of a trophy thanks to her family and friends.

Sue Sheppard died suddenly in August 2011, aged 51, from pancreatic cancer and her death has spurred her friends and family on to commemorate her life and raise money to fight the deadly disease.

Now her husband, Neil Sheppard, and brothers Roy, Dennis, Ron and Paul Amphlett, have set up a golfing charity cup event to raise money for MacMillan Cancer and pancreatic cancer charities.

The Sue Sheppard Memorial Trophy event will take place on Sunday, July 14, at Evesham Golf Club.

The event will be hosted by the Pershore Golf Society, of which Neil, Roy, Paul and Dennis were founding members.

Dennis said: “Sue was a fantastically fit and feisty individual with an absolute passion for all forms of sport and fitness.

“She was a highly competitive and combative competitor in everything she undertook. Those factors had no significance in the arbitrary killer that cancer continues to be in our world today.

“We hope the team competition will stimulate some of Sue’s passion, spirit and highly competitive nature.

Andy Price, vice-captain of Pershore Golf Society, added: “We hope this team competition with its strong community spirit will emulate some of Sue’s passion, and highly competitive nature.

“Ultimately through everyone’s generosity, we can in our own small way, help eradicate a condition that impacts upon everyone’s family and friends.”
