MORE than 140 people got their hands dirty to learn how buildings used to be made.

Greyfriars, in Friar Street, Worcester, held free wattle and daub workshops between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday to give an insight into how the National Trust house, which dates back to 1480, was built.

Rachael Trimm, house and visitor services manager at Greyfriars, said: “The wattle and daub workshop was great fun for all the family. We had kids getting their hands muddy and messy and adults having a go at weaving the reeds in and out of the fake ‘walls’ we built.

“Everyone really enjoyed the sunshine and was able to sit on the grass for the first time this year to learn about how our building was made more than 500 years ago.”

People could also collect items from the walled garden at the timber-framed merchant’s house before using their finds during a craft workshop.
