W HAT can I rant about this week? Oh the possibilites are endless!
But for now,I’m going to concentrate my efforts on celebrities.
I’m a bit of a celebrity whizz,I could tell you each of the Kardashians in age order, along with their middle names; but I won’t, well not today anyway!
I’d like to rant about something that really frustrates me, and that’s the manipulation of media attention by celebrities.
Recently, at the Golden Globe Awards, it was reported that Oscarwinner Jennifer Lawrence had been paid $100,000 to wear a pair of Chopard earrings.
I can appreciate that if someone offered me that amount to put a pair of pretty earrings in,I’d have no problems, but it seems frustrating that clearly such influential people can coerce us into buying expensive items, yet no such celebrities seem to be queing up to coerce us into doing anything worthwhile.
It begs the question that surely these people could use their media spotlight in different, more sustainable ways.
Take Angelina Jolie, for example, she is a United Nations embassador, and has frequently filmed programmes of herself visiting poverty-stricken villages in both Africa and the Middle East.
Angelina also gives televised speeches on what harrowing oppression she has witnessed, and implores people to lend their support to humanatarian organisations around the world.
I know I’m only 16, and that ‘money makes the world go round’ blah, blah, but I genuinely question some of these celebrities’ moral compass.
How can one person be so rich, and pictured on the cover of multiple magazines internationally, and not try to promote something other than themselves?
Doing your bit for Comic Relief once a year frankly isn’t enough in my opinion.
Celebrities should act in the moment and visit children’s homes, get papped wearing a T-shirt promoting a charity, and blog about good causes to their fans via Twitter or Facebook.
I’m not saying a few celebrities will change the world, of course there are other factors to play in how, if ever, to rectify the inequality of the 21st century.
However,I do feel that if even one person’s life is affected by this method, then surely it’s something worth pursuing by the people that influence us the most.
