GATES leading into one of Worcester’s most historic buildings have been opened for the first time as part of a new partnership with neighbouring Fort Royal Park. The Commandery gates to the rear of the building were opened for the first time for the whole day on Easter Monday. They will now be open during the museum’s opening hours in a move that museum bosses hope will encourage more residents to come and explore the 11th century former hospital.
Sarah Bourne, duty manager at the Commandery, said: “In the last year we have had a close partnership with the friends committee of Fort Royal Park. The Commandery and the park should be linked. We have already got people who live locally who haven’t come here. It has bought more people in. This is what it’s about.”
