A BRAVE teenager made a “bald” move to help a cause close to her heart in memory of her mum.

Paige Foxall chose to undergo a transformation on her last day at school before the Easter break, by lopping off her luscious locks in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Fellow pupils and staff at Pershore High School gathered in the main hall to lend their support to the 15-year-old, from Bishampton, who tragically lost her mum Debra, aged 43, to breast cancer in July 2007.

Her bravery paid off as the year 10 pupil’s efforts have so far raised about £1,100 in donations.

She said: “I went on the Cancer Research UK website and saw there was a picture of someone who had lost their hair because of chemotherapy.

“I decided I wanted to shave my head to show support and raise money.

“I didn’t regret doing it. It was quite good because everyone was cheering me on. There were about 300 people in the hall. It was scary but it was worth it.

“My fundraising target was £200 to £250 and I didn’t think I’d raise that much.”

And she said her mum would have been proud of the effort.

“I think my mum would think I was mad but she’d be proud,” Paige said.

“I’m glad I’ve done it. It’s nice to give something back to help.”

Paige said she hoped to continue fundraising for Cancer Research UK and thanked everyone who supported her.

Proud dad Dave said: “I’m very proud of her. She did it on behalf of her mum. It’s quite touching.

“She had nice long hair anyway and it’s now gone to zero. [Paige] is quite proud of her achievement.

“Debra fought breast cancer for two-and-a-half years, but she was like Paige, she was strong minded. She would have been very proud of her. It’s brilliant.”

Clive Corbett, headteacher at Pershore High School, described his student’s actions as an “astonishing achievement”.

He said: “Paige is an extremely brave young lady who has endured the very difficult emotions of the day to bring the school together in fundraising and awareness of a tremendously important charity. Well done Paige.”
