CARPET firm Brintons is investing in its Kidderminster plant, creating up to 30 jobs in the town.
The company has selected the Kidderminster factory for the next phrase of expansion of its pioneering High Definition Weave technology, which weaves carpets and rugs in up to 30 colours.
The £3 million investment will also create nine jobs at its Telford site.
The news comes just two months after the firm announced it would be axing up to 20 jobs at the factory following changes to the shift patterns.
It will be a welcome boost to the town’s economy which has been hit by job losses following the recent closures of high street stores Comet and Jessops.
The carpet company will also be taking on five engineering apprentices in Kidderminster as part of its apprenticeship programme.
Don Coates, managing director, said: “Our brand reputation is built on design innovation, product excellence, technical expertise and customer focus. it’s essential we continue to invest in all of these areas to ensure our future success.”
Brintons manufactures in the UK, Portugal and India, having sold its Chinese operation last year. There are currently 180 staff at the Kidderminster site.
Bosses said they intended to build on the firm’s “illustrious heritage”, ensuring the 230-year-old brand maintained its worldwide leadership position.
Mr Coates added: "We have a very clear view of how we deliver value for our customers. Our mission is to make the world a more beautiful place, which we have been doing for over 200 years.
“We have a fantastic employee ethos with tremendous commitment to the business and the Brintons brand. We will go the extra mile to help our customers achieve their goals.”
He added: “Our customers are incredibly discerning, so we work hard to stay one step ahead. We have just filed our company accounts that report a significant turnaround, so we are in a strong position to invest in our people, products and our unrivalled technology.
“This is good news for our business and a reflection of the hard work and commitment of the management team and of all our employees worldwide, and of the support from our customers. “ He added he was confident they would be successful “in our goal of continued business growth”.
Brintons also plans to expand its spinning facility in Telford following the decision by Axminster Carpets to close its operation in Buckfast and sell off equipment.
Brintons yarn processing capacity will increase by over a third to support the company's sales growth plans.
