THE gritting fleet will remain on standby tonight and throughout the weekend with temperatures set to stay low.
This afternoon sees variable cloud, which may at times be thick enough for the odd flake of snow to appear, though accumulations aren't expected.
During the evening cloud amounts will thin to bring a dry night with clear spells, a resulting road surface temperature of -3C, and a risk of patchy frost developing, especially in rural areas.
Saturday morning will remain dry with some sunshine, easing winds and variable amounts of cloud. Road surface temperatures will dip overnight to a minimum -1C.
Sunday will also be dry, with light winds strengthening overnight into Monday and a minimum projected road surface temperature of 0C.
Gritting crews are going out from 4pm today to treat areas identified as needing additional attention due to lingering snow melt creating wet spots.
Crews will then remain on standby, with roads monitored throughout the period to determine whether any further treatment may be needed.
Drivers are once again urged to drive with caution, ensuring they temper their driving according to the conditions, and ensure they maintain a safe distance between themselves and other vehicles to allow for additional braking distance when roads are wet or icy.
