WORCESTERSHIRE teenage singer Lauren Wright’s hopes of pop stardom have been boosted by airtime on BBC Radio One.
Lauren, aged 19, made the play list on the nation’s top rock and pop station with debut single Kiss Me, which was being played throughout last week.
It is the latest step in a musical career that is promising big things. But although she has always enjoyed music and studied the subject at GCSE, any thoughts of making it her career did not come until 2010.
“I did music at school but then went to college in Worcester to do something completely different,” said Lauren, who was study- ing public administration before deciding this was not for her.
“I quickly realised that I want to work in music and went to Kidderminster College and that is where I had my first experience of recording.”
Her first single was released last year and there will be another one out later in 2013. There has also been a tour to the east coast of the United States.
“It was a great experience and I really enjoyed being able to sing in front of live audiences,” she said.
Lauren, who also writes her own songs, was noticed by Radio One after being spotted by a producer when she did some work with her local BBC radio station.
She moved to Tenbury a few months ago but is settled to life in the Teme Valley. “I come from Cumbria but now Tenbury is home,” she said.
