A THRILL-seeking trio from Worcestershire took to the skies along with 100 other daredevils around the country this month as part of a national sponsored sky dive.
Jane Field and Charlie-Ann Stevens, both of Droitwich, and William Zylstra, of Worcester, took the 12,000ft plunge as part of the Muscular Dystrophy Cam-paign’s Make Today Count event on Friday, March 1.
They chose to get involved because Jane’s 15-year-old son, Murray, suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a life-limiting condition which causes muscles throughout the body to weaken and waste over time resulting in increasingly severe disability.
The team, who named themselves Murray’s Muscles, look set to raise almost £2,000 towards the national target of £50,000. The money will help fund leading scientists who are developing promising potential treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Mrs Field said: “I hate heights and I am not a brave person. My son Murray, lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy every day. That’s bravery.
“I am thrilled to have got myself through such a daunting challenge. It is truly the most amazing experience I have ever had and I will be doing it again next year.
“I’m so very grateful to everyone who sponsored us. People across the country have been out fundraising for the charity and it’s been wonderful to be part of it all. I would recommend skydiving to anyone. “Let’s hope we can change the name to team 500 next year.”
Charlotte Allen, the campaign’s Midlands volunteer fund-raising manager said: “Jane, and each and every member of team 100, has done something truly incredible for us as a charity. “The £2,000 they alone have raised will fund a scientist’s work for almost 16 full days, in developing treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.”
