CHRISTIAN worshippers from all denominations came together for the traditional Good Friday Walk of Witness in Worcester.
The event, organised by Churches Together in West Worcester, saw up to 80 people gather in the spring sunshine in the Homebase car park this morning to celebrate the Easter message.
Following a wooden cross, worshippers from up to seven churches were joined by Reverend Chris Stuart, of St John’s Church and Father Paul Wheldon, of Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church.
They paraded into St John’s, stopping for periods of reflection along the way, before they made their way to St John’s Church for a time of worship and to relive what happened on Good Friday when Jesus was on the cross.
Alan Myatt, aged 31, of Consuming Fire Ministries, who carried the cross, said the procession was a way of showing people Good Friday was not just a normal day.
“It’s honouring what he did on that cross and he did it for us,” he said. “It’s a public statement, ‘this is what we believe’.
“We are so busy in our own lives we just focus on what we’re doing and we forget what’s going on around us. When you see something like this it gets you to think.
“Some people may forget about it but it reminds them.
“It’s a big honour to carry the cross.”
