A MAN threw a brick through the window of a room, narrowly missing a sleeping child, a court was told.

Andrew Bullock, aged 22, of Lilac Avenue, Tolladine, Worcester, admitted criminal damage when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

The court heard the house belonged to the parents of a woman Bullock had once been in a relationship with.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said Bullock broke the window, worth £180, at about 4.30am, on December 1, throwing a house brick through the first floor back bedroom window. A man at the address saw Bullock “jumping into a vehicle and speeding off”. Miss Lovegrove said: “He states the brick through the window narrowly missed the child asleep on a mattress on the floor of the bedroom.”

Bullock later sent a text message saying “yes, I’ve bricked the window” and he was arrested. He told police: “Yes I did it. I’m not going to lie. But you have to understand why.” He said he did not know there was a child in the room.

Miss Lovegrove said Bullock was “remorseful” that his actions could have endangered the child.

Christopher Aggrey, defending, said there was “significant and compelling mitigation” on behalf of his client.

However, district judge Nigel Cadbury said the case should be heard in a domestic violence court.

“There are significant aggravating features here. It’s a revenge attack and it did target a vulnerable victim. There is significant fear in a domestic context. I think the custody threshold could well have been passed and all sentencing options should remain open.”

He adjourned the case until Monday, April 8, for sentence. His bail conditions include not to contact the woman and not to enter a named road in Worcester.
