A REVAMPED footbridge that is the missing link in a riverside facelift is set to open this weekend.
As previously reported in your Worcester News, Councillor Derek Prodger called for Diglis Basin Bridge to be brought back into use as soon as possible after it was out of bounds for a year.
He has now received confirmation from the Canal and River Trust that the bridge will re-open on Sunday.
Coun Prodger said: “We hope to open it on Sunday and I’ll be the first to set foot on it.
“I’m actually delighted that our enquiry has proved fruitful and I must thank the chairman of the trust. “So many people will now enjoy crossing the bridge. This is the final piece in the jigsaw at this end of the waterway.”
The walkway completes a circular riverside route which includes the new Diglis Bridge over the Severn.
A spokesman for the Canal and River Trust said work on the bridge to put in safety measures, such as cyclist dismount signs, was due to be finished soon.
He said: “It’s great news the bridge will be in use again. It’s a valuable link for people on the riverside.
“We’d just remind cyclists that they should dismount when crossing it.”
