CAMILLA, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Colleen Rooney. Two Cs with seemingly little in common.
Colleen is married to her childhood sweetheart – Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney.
Thanks to her husband’s estimated £16 million annual income, Colleen has never had to work.
Instead the 26-year-old mum is frequently pictured on holiday, dripping in designer clothes and jewellery, or driving a brand-new fourby-four with blacked-out windows.
It all sounds like a dream, but a string of sex scandals involving her husband’s penchant for prostitutes have left many wondering why Mrs Rooney has stuck by her millionaire husband.
Camilla, on the other hand, is married to Prince Charles – the heir to the throne. Our future Queen, albeit we’re assured, a reluctant one, 65-yearold Camilla Rosemary MountbattenWindsor spends her time driving a four-by-four around her Gloucestershire estate or carrying out royal engagements.
Like Wayne and Colleen, Charles and Camilla were also very young when they fell in love with each other and like the Rooneys, their relationship has courted its fair share of sordid headlines – not least throughout the Diana years, when Camilla was the ‘other woman’.
Up until now these two women have lived their lives in the glare of the public spotlight, hanging onto their men, but very much away from each other. That is until the Duchess managed to upset Colleen during a royal engagement in London this week.
The Duchess was visiting a charity in Tower Hamlets, which offers free advice to help tackle financial inequalities in the area.
Camilla joked that rather than spending a rumoured £5 million on a bespoke diamond gown, Colleen should learn to be more sensible with her money.
There was a time when if you found yourself the butt of a royal joke, you bowed your head and took it on the chin, but not now.
Colleen took straight to Twitter to vent her fury: “I apparently paid around 5 million for my wedding dress!!,” she tweeted. “Joke!!!
Diamonds on it..... Not one!
‘Camilla (Dutchess (sic) of Cornwall) should know better and teach children to not always believe the rubbish reported in papers!!’.
The future Queen of England she may be, but Camilla should learn that the Queen of the Wags has not got to where she is today without usurping a few old pretenders along the way.
