THE smell of freshly-cut grass, picking up a programme outside, the roar of the crowd as the referee's whistle gets the game underway.
We all have particular memories of football matches from the past.
And as Worcester City Football Club prepares to leave St George's Lane, their home of 108 years, we are asking for your memories of the landmark ground. In June, it will be demolished for housing, but we don’t want the memories to disappear with the stands.
We want supporters to tell us their favourite memories of The Lane – favourite match, which player you enjoyed watching the most.
Here, 46-year-old fan Tim Jauncey reminisces. He said: “I will always have happy memories of St George’s Lane. I could see the floodlights from my bedroom window in those days, as soon as they went on the excitement began to grow.
"My dad first took me to the Lane 40 seasons ago when City were playing Merthyr Tydfil. We sat at the very front of ‘B’ stand and I was instantly hooked. Over the years there have been many changes.
"Dark days, wonderful days, heroic failures and ignominious capitulations, all part of being a fan of a team that never wins anything.
“‘Anticipointment’ we used to call it. The life of a City fan.”
