THE gritters will be heading out on to county roads again later today.

Highways inspectors will be examining roads in the north of the county from 4pm today focusing on areas experiencing problems with drifting snow so that any additional action or treatment can be identified.

Gritting vehicles will head out to treat primary routes from 6.30pm with further road inspections to be carried out from 2am tomorrow morning to determine whether further treatment is needed.

Today the weather has remained largely dry though cloudy and dull through the afternoon with the possibility of an occasional spot of light rain or drizzle.

This is more likely in the late afternoon or early evening with a low risk of some of this precipitation falling as light snow.

Temperatures overnight will dip just below freezing with a resultant minimum road surface temperature of -2C and a chance of ice patches in places.

Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council's Highways Manager, said: "As promised, we're maintaining inspections and treatments to ensure roads are as good as they can be for our drivers given the continuing inclement weather.

"Like everyone, we're looking forward to seeing the last of the snow so Spring can start properly, but in the meantime we're still dealing with snow and ice for a little while yet, so do please take care when you're out and about."
