A GROUP of young carers from Worcestershire visited the Houses of Parliament thanks to a county MP and Droitwich Lions Club.
The 13 carers, accompanied by social workers Neil Phillips and Jackie Benton, met county MPs Robin Walker, Mark Garnier and Peter Luff. They talked about issues affecting them such as funding for young carers, tuition fees, the transition to becoming adult carers and housing.
All of them look after someone in their family who has an illness or disability, or is affected by mental ill-health or substance misuse. Mr Luff, who represents Mid-Worcestershire, said: “I was really honoured to meet young carers from Worcestershire in the House of Commons.
“To hear of the care and commitment they give to those they love, and their personal sacrifice in doing so, was deeply moving.”
The visit was organised by Robin Walker and Droitwich Lions supported the trip with a £500 donation.
