A MAN has admitted drink-driving after police stopped him because he had his fog lights on.

Maxwell Crimmins, aged 55, of Leigh Sinton Road, Malvern, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

He was stopped by police out on mobile patrol in Yates Hay Road, Malvern, on March 3 driving his Ford Fiesta. He was arrested and taken to the police station where a breath test revealed 54mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, exceeding the prescribed limit of 35mcg.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said: “Police saw a red Ford Fiesta driving in Church Road, Malvern, with the rear fog lights on.

“It was because of this he was caused to stop. When they spoke to him they could smell alcohol on his breath.”

Rebecca Connolly, defending, said: “He accepts the offence in full. He had a difficult few weeks, problems with a relationship and work.

“He had a few pints of lager at the pub – he didn’t feel intoxicated and made the poor decision to drive the vehicle home that evening.”

He has two jobs as a driver and a cleaner and Miss Connolly said the driving ban would have an impact on his employment prospects.

She said: “One of those jobs is going to fall by the wayside.”

He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. He was also banned from driving for 12 months.

Magistrates offered him the drink-drive course which, if he completes by October 20 this year, will entitle him to a 91-day reduction in the length of his ban which would mean he can drive again by December 18 this year.
