FIVE cats in need of loving owners were given new homes at a rehoming show in Worcester.

The Worcester and District branch of Cats Protection hosted the event in Powick Village Hall, near Worcester, on Saturday.

About 100 people braved the snow to attend the show which has been hailed a success by organisers.

A further seven cats also got potential new homes and £170 was raised from refreshments and stalls.

Fran Holder, of the charity, said there were 23 cats in total.

“We arrange these events for people to have a look at all the different cats,” she said. “It’s quite different seeing them in the flesh rather than on a photograph.

“Overall it’s been a huge success for us. A very big thank you to everybody. “All the foster mums managed to get here and a lot of people came and looked at the cats.

“It’s great people have come along and have offered the cats a home. We’re going to have more space to take cats in and can help more cats.

“We will now prepare for the kittens we are expecting, in the next few months. To avoid unwanted litters people can apply to us for help towards the cost of having their cats neutered.

The charity, which has shows every quarter, is holding its next event in Powick Parish Hall on Sunday, July 7, from 11am to 1pm.

Residents who were unable to attend the rehoming show and are interested in adopting can call Joy Beech on 07527 007436 or visit worcestercats.org.uk. There is an adoption fee of £50 and all cats are health-checked and vaccinated.
