THE Bishop of Worcester has welcomed the enthronement of the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Rt Rev Dr John Inge was among 2,000 invited guests, including senior clergy and royalty, who attended a service at Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday to appoint The Most Rev Justin Welby as the new leader of the Anglican Communion.
Speaking to your Worcester News yesterday, Bishop John said he hoped the new archbishop would help the country reconnect with its Christian heritage.
He said: “The ceremony was wonderful. It was uplifting, engaging, inspiring – the cathedral was packed with people from all over the world.
“We all felt it is a very engaging appointment. “He has considerable experience in the big wide world but also he has had important experience in the church and he’s put his life on the line in order to bring people together.
“He is wonderfully self-deprecating and is a man of great humility. “I’d like to see him work with the rest of us to help the country find its spiritual bearings and reconnect with its Christian heritage.”
