A MUCH-loved father, grandfather and stalwart of Worcester has died.

Father-of-three and former planning inspector Stuart Wild, of Claines, passed away suddenly on March 1 aged 65.

Born in Stockport and brought up in Warrington, he moved to Worcester in the 1970s, where his children Malcolm, Ian and Margaret were born.

He worked for many years in Worcester City Council’s planning department, before becoming a senior planning inspector for Welsh local authorities.

He was also an accomplished runner and an integral member of the Black Pear Joggers club.

Last October, he completed his 100th marathon, and also took part in charity events, as well as sharing his knowledge and advice with budding marathon runners.

Mr Wild was also involved in planning the Perdiswell Marathon, which will take place later this year, and his family has donated a trophy in his memory.

His son Ian said: “He was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He was affectionate, caring and generous. I haven’t come across anybody who has had a bad word to say about him.

“I didn’t realise quite how appreciated he was. The show of support the family have received from friends has been overwhelming.”

His other passions included trains and motorsport, having been a talented rally navigator, competing with his brother Duncan at club and national level in the 1960s.

The grandfather-of-four also gave much of his time volunteering for local Cub and Scout groups, being part of the panel that appoints new leaders, and was a magistrate for several years.

The funeral service takes place at Worcester Cremato-rium on Monday at 1.30pm.

It will be family flowers only, but donations for Motor Neurone Disease and Black Pear Joggers can be left on the collection plate or sent to EJ Gumery and Son, 68/70 Ombersley Road, Worcester.
