IT will be game over for a campaign to save a Worcester video games shop from closing for good this weekend.
Game in CrownGate Shopping Centre will close its doors for the last time despite supporters launching a Facebook campaign to try to save it.
Bosses decided to close the branch, which is one of two in the city, following the expiration of its lease.
A spokesman said: “There are seven employees who work in the store and we have been working with them to look at opportunities within the business.”
Supporters had launched a Save Game Worcester to try to stop the closure of what they claimed was Worcester’s oldest dedicated video game shop.
Sharing memories and offering support to the staff, the page managed to gain 161 members.
The Broad Street branch of Game will remain open and customers who had ordered items from Game CrownGate have been sent letters to tell them they are able to collect their items from that store.
CrownGate is already in discussions with another retailer interested in taking over the prominent unit in Chapel Walk.
Talks are at a very early stage and for legal reasons the name of the business is not yet being revealed.
However, the unit is not expected to stay empty for long and an announcement by the shopping centre is expected to be made in the next couple of weeks.
