A GROUP of Worcester teenagers chose good reads for their friends as part of an initiative at the Hive.
Bishop Perowne CE College pupils Jess Tobin, Abi Rudge, Ellie Lee, Micky Schenk and Will Hodges took part in the Teen Takeover Day in November to learn about the stock selection process at the library.
They selected 300 books to offer their peers after visiting a library book supplier in Birmingham.
Last Tuesday, the group returned to process, catalogue and display the selected titles on the shelves – complete with the branding of their team name, Chapter 5.
A group statement from Chapter 5 said: “It was an extremely fun and educational experience which allowed us to see the books we wanted in our library.
“It also showed us how our books get from the suppliers to the library shelves. We want to get more teenagers positively involved with books and the Hive. We will work closely with the Hive to make it more appealing to young people.” David Person, stock manager for Worcestershire County Council libraries and learning service, said: “Chapter 5 did a great job taking over my role. Giving teenagers the opportunity to select books they would like to see in their local library will make sure the stock is kept relevant.” The teens’s top titles can be found on display in a cabinet on level one with their reviews.
