CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE WEEK:
Christopher's Bicycle, written and illustrated by Charlotte Middleton, is published in paperback by Oxford University Press, priced £11.99. Available now In the third adventure from Dandeville, eco-minded ginger and white guinea pig Christopher is given a bicycle by his mum and dad, made with recycled materials.
It inspires him to ride into town and ask the librarian for old newspapers, the baker for leftover bread and coffee shop owner for empty jars.
With the help of his sister Poppy and neighbour Posie, industrious Christopher turns the papers into book bags for the library, the jars into flower pots for the cafe and the bread into bird feeders.
Dandeville's residents are so delighted by these recycled goods that they're inspired to have a go themselves and even hold a recycling race to celebrate.
While this book is designed for children as little as two, it's perfect for older kids who are starting to learn to ride and to spark an interest in the environment.
With beautiful illustrations made up of pictures of objects as well as drawings, Charlotte Middleton has created a utopia which any child would be happy to escape into.
