DADS rolled up their sleeves at a hotel on Mothering Sunday, choosing to wash up rather than pay their bill.

The Wood Norton hotel, just outside Evesham, surprised some of its diners after lunch on Sunday by presenting dads with their bill and a pair of washing-up gloves.

Oliver Cooke, manager of the hotel, said the fathers were given the choice of paying the bill or doing 30 minutes washing up, while mum and the children enjoyed an after-lunch coffee.

Two dads opted for the washing-up option.

As part of the day children also planted roses in the gardens and attached a message to their mum.

Mr Cooke said: “We thought we’d have a bit of fun really. The whole concept of Mother’s Day is to give mum a well deserved day off, do all the house chores and cook the lunch.

“So by dad taking the family out for a meal, although a lovely treat, is slightly cheating, as they’re getting out of doing some actual work.”

The restaurant was full for the Mother’s Day lunch and two of the dads opted to tackle the mass of dirty plates.

He said: “It was good fun. I’m just worried now what the dads will want to do as payback when it’s Father’s Day.”
