A DEDICATED Scout leader received the highest praise after 40 years in the movement – recognition from Chief Scout Bear Grylls.

Terry Oliver, assistant Scout leader at 7th Worcester Powick and Callow End, was presented with a certificate signed by the celebrity survival expert at last Monday night’s cub meeting at the village hall in Powick.

Worcester’s district commissioner, Mark Strain, said: “Leaders do not always get the thanks they deserve in scouting, so on such a special occasion like this it is great to see the Cubs thank Terry and recognise for themselves just what this means for 7th Worcester, the district and scouting as a whole.

“This is the first award recognising 40 years in scouting I have had the pleasure to give.

“It is certainly a very proud moment for us all and especially for Terry.”

Mr Oliver decided to have the presentation made in front of the Cubs rather than at a district meeting, as a surprise.

Cub leader Stephan Flubacher said: “What a fantastic surprise and one the Cubs will not forget in a hurry, I am very pleased Terry’s 40 years in scouting has been marked in this way.”

Adventurer Bear Grylls became the chief scout in 2009.
