AN evening of patriotic music will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Worcester Festival Choral Society present a pageant of English music at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday, March 23 featuring much of the music played at the ceremony in Westminster Abbey back in 1953.
It will also be the inaugural concert of the society’s new director of music, Dr Peter Nardone, who succeeded Adrian Lucas last year.
Peter also acts as the organist, choirmaster and artistic director of the Worcester Three Choirs Festival.
The first half of the programme includes Parry’s I Was Glad, Walton’s Coronation Te Deum, Ireland’s Greater Love and Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens from 7.30pm.
Following the interval, there will be performances of Ireland’s Downland Suite and Elgar’s Coronation Ode before Britten’s National Anthem closes proceedings.
The event will feature soprano Claire Seaton, mezzo-soprano Susanna Spice, tenor Robert Anthony Gardiner and bass baritone Christopher Foster along with the Chameleon Arts Orchestra.
Tickets range from £7-25.
