A BAND of colossal prog monsters will change your perception of the much maligned genre.
Humanfly are the latest guests of the Task in Hand at the Marr’s Bar, Pierpont Street, on Friday, March 22 having been a staple of the UK music scene for well over a decade.
Over the course of their career they have progressively changed their style, taking in sludgy hardcore and monolithic post-metal riff-fests along the way.
Their current form on new album Awesome Science, released on Brew Records last month, has drawn comparisons with King Crimson covering the Mars Volta and vice versa.
Big bone crushing riffs are tempered with screaming, noodled knots of guitar, pounding drums and driving bass.
The Broken Oak Duet may only feature baritone guitarist Tom Morgan and drummer Howard James Kenny but they create a massive sound that combines a beautiful darkness with challenging riffs and clattering drums.
Not only do Hey You Guys! reference cult children’s classic film the Goonies, they have been in more local bands than you can shake a stick at.
Between Pete Adams, Dave Draper, Oly Edkins and Ben Pemberton they have been in This Wicked Tongue, Age, AWWBLOT?, Lost Boy Scout and Expedestrian.
This mix of talent that produces hard edged, shouty pop rock.
Tickets are £4 in advance or £6 on the door and doors open at 8pm.
