A HARD-working mother who set up a charity to help families like hers is attending a glamorous awards ceremony this weekend.

Jean Wilson, who set up New Hope in July 2010, is a finalist in the Inspirational Mother Awards after being nominated by her daughter Tara Hughes.

The mum-of-three set up the charity after discovering a lack of facilities to support her and her daughter Emily, who has autism.

Speaking ahead of the awards ceremony at the Mayfair Hotel, London, on Saturday, Ms Wilson said: “Its a lovely feeling to think that my daughter took the trouble to write in about me and great to think that she feels I’m an inspiration.

“I’m really looking forward to the day, especially as it’s the day before Mother’s Day. Tara and I don’t get to spend much quality time together as we are both so busy, so it will be great to have our Mothering Sunday on Saturday.”

She said she already feels like she has won and the nomination acts as a tribute to all the mothers she works with at New Hope.

Ms Wilson, who is also mum to William, tasted success in December when she won the Volunteer of the Year award run by children’s charity Cerebra after another nomination submitted by Tara.

Based in Wells Road, off Newtown Road, Worcester, the non-profit specialist provider works with 65 families who have children with disabilities and complex health care needs.

The ceremony, run in association with the Caron Keating Foundation, will be hosted by Gloria Hunniford and presented by Sky Sports’s Sarah-Jane Mee and Natalie Sawyer.

Some 140 guests will be treated to afternoon tea and scones before the winners will be announced in six categories: mother, grandmother, three generations, mother and daughter, mother and son, and celebrity mother.

A further four awards will be given to inspirational mothers in attendance on the day.
