BUDDING law enforcers at Droitwich Spa High School spent a morning in court before a major competition.
A group of fifteen year eight and nine pupils attended Worcester Magistrates Court in preparation for their part in the 2013 Magistrates Mock Trial Competition.
The competition is run as an extra-curricular activity at the school and this year’s heat will take place in Worcester on Saturday, March 16. During their visit, pupils saw at first-hand how the legal system works and were given specialist advice by magistrate Sue Dowty and lawyer Paul Whitfield.
Elizabeth Whitehouse, head of year eight, said: “The mock trial competition is a great way for young people to gain a real insight into the way the legal system works in our country.
“It is so important for young people to understand their rights and responsibilities with regard to the law and this competition really offers them that.
“In addition, it can sometimes inspire themto follow a career in the law. But, just as importantly, it develops students’ skills in research, discussion, analysis, public speaking and communication.”
