I THINK Richard Hill summed it up well in his post-match comments when he said how all of the aspects of our game had not quite been clicking together at the same time before the Wasps game.
We wanted a performance like that and, following a run of five Aviva Premiership defeats in a row, there was a little bit of tension beginning to build up.
However, Friday’s win steadied the ship a bit, especially as we picked up all five points by scoring four tries.
It was a great night and the Worcester crowd were really vocal.
Also, the pitch was quite firm, which suited us — it has been difficult to play anything on that pitch in the last couple of months.
I think our back row have been outstanding in the last few games and they were again against Wasps, slowing the ball down and making plenty of tackles.
Our line-out was good too with Neil Best performing well — we thought Wasps would target James Percival and I at the line-out, so we used Besty a lot and the plan worked well.
People often talk about kicking the ball as being negative, but the little chip kick over from Andy Goode for David Lemi’s try showed that we can catch teams out.
Goodey got pulled up for wasting a penalty by trying a cross-field kick recently, and rightly so, but he is in that position and has to make decisions. When it comes off and we score, he is seen as a world-beater.
Goodey had a good game against Wasps and, without a shaddow of a doubt, we will miss him when he leaves us for them in the summer.
He is a valuable addition to our squad and it has been good having a player of that calibre, but Worcester have been recruiting well. We just want to finish the season off with a few more wins now.
The victory over Wasps moved us further away from the relegation zone, but that was never a worry for me as I always knew we would be too strong at home to be dragged into the scrap.
However, we do need to get an away win soon as that is something that really bugs me — it has been over a year since we won away and that’s not good enough and we need to address it.
We have now got two weeks without a game, so the players will have a little bit of time off.
We are getting together tomorrow night for a team meal before going to watch the Cavaliers play the Army, then we’ll probably have a few beers after the game.
I reckon this is the most unsociable team I have ever played for, though, as quite a few of the lads live in different areas and some have young children too, so it is difficult for me to get them all to come out together.
We do need to look at that because, when the time is right, it is important for team-bonding for eveyone to get together.
As part of that, a few of us have formed a Warriors band — we’ve only had two sessions together so far, but hopefully we’ll be good enough to do a gig for the other players in the summer. We are a rock band and play covers of Oasis and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
As well as me, we have Jake Abbott and Jonny Arr on guitar, Danny Gray on drums and Josh Drauniniu and Josh Matavesi on vocals. We need a bass player, but I think Ravai Fatiaki might do that.
