Worcestershire County Council's fleet of gritters will be heading out onto the roads tonight as temperatures are expected to fall below freezing.

Although today's weather is mostly dry with sunshine, the clear conditions extending overnight will allow road surface temperatures to fall below freezing, with a resulting risk of frost in places.

Some mist and fog patches may form towards the end of the night, with conditions tomorrow morning returning to dry with patchy cloud.

Gritters will be going out from 6.30pm this evening to treat areas of the county highways which are identified as requiring additional grit. The fleet will then remain on standby, with weather conditions being monitored in case further treatment is needed.

Drivers are once again urged to drive with caution, ensuring they temper their driving according to the conditions, and ensure they maintain a safe distance between themselves and other vehicles to allow for additional braking distance when roads are wet or icy.

Worcestershire County Council's Highways Manager, Jon Fraser, said: "The frost expected tonight will be pretty light, though as always we're not taking any risks with gritting and will be ensuring as always that those areas that need a bit of extra attention will receive that this evening."
