THE cause of a “challenging” fire at a workshop over the weekend is still being investigated.
Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Merebrook Industrial Estate in Hanley Road, Welland, near Malvern, at 8.35pm on Saturday (March 2).
Crews from Worcester, Upton, Malvern and Ledbury attended the scene where they found the fire involved a unit being used as a joinery workshop, with risk of the fire spreading to an area of the workshop used for processing fibre glass.
No one was injured during the blaze but there was significant fire and smoke damage to the joinery.
Station Commander Adrian Moore from HWFRS confirmed it was a challenging incident due to restricted water supplies in the area and the presence of chemicals used in fibre-glass processing.
There was also concern about an asbestos roof.
He said: “We are still trying to establish exactly how the fire started but we believe it spread from the outside yard into the joinery workshop.”
Police also attended the incident.
