THE Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra continues its active service next weekend, more than 100 years after it was founded with the help of Sir Edward Elgar.
Established in 1905 and formerly known as the Worcestershire Orchestral Society, the orchestra will perform on Saturday, March 16 at 7.30pm, in St. Georges Church, St Georges’s Square, Barbourne, Worcester.
The concert’s programme will include Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol and Dvorak’s New World Symphony.
Keith Slade, the orchestra’s conductor and a former BBC Young Musician of the Year woodwind finalist, said: “We have a fantastic community orchestra based right here in Worcester.
“The commitment and energy of the players, who are all local people, really shines through our performances.”
He added: “We are playing some truly iconic and uplifting works in our next programme; come along and enjoy listening to a fantastic orchestra, right on your doorstep.
“If you have never been to a classical concert before, then make this your first.”
Tickets are £10 (concessions £8).
