MORE roadworks are planned for a main commuter route in Worcester.
Ombersley Road is currently partially closed while Severn Trent Water makes repairs to sewers in nearby Sunnyside Road and Barbourne Road.
Worcestershire County Council is now planning to carry out patching works to the road, starting tomorrow and continuing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
Jon Fraser, the council's highways manager, said the work has been timed to coincide with Severn Trent’s project and would not affect the existing diversion, therefore minimising disruption.
Residents have been sent a letter about the repairs and asked not to park on the road between 7.30am and 4pm. No Parking cones have been placed along Ombersley Road in the area where repairs are being carried out.
One Ombersley Road resident, who did not want to be named, claimed householders were already suffering as a result of the existing works.
He said: “We have to park 10 minutes walk away in order to avoid the delays along the Droitwich Road and The Tything for the school run in the morning. But this means no one will be able to park outside their homes.
“There are lots of elderly residents for whom this is more than an inconvenience. It also means people living in adjacent roads will find it even harder to park.
“I'm sure they'll say that repairing pot holes is important and to do the work while there is already a road closure in place makes sense. Agreed.
“Having watched them at work, its become obvious they could manage it better. The parking restrictions are simply for the work men's convenience and not the residents and tax payers.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Severn Trent said progress was being made on its work to prevent sewer flooding from affecting homes on Barbourne Road.
They said: “Two weeks on, engineers have been able to install a new connection to storm drains, to help move surface water off the road and into the drainage system.
“Work to install new sewer pipes and the construction of the pumping station is also moving forward.
“Even after schools have returned from their half term break, we’re pleased to see that the traffic management system is helping to minimise disruption to road users.
“We’re very grateful for the local community’s ongoing patience and we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience the work may be causing.”
