AS you are reading the Worcester News it’s clear that you have impeccable taste in newspapers and so wouldn’t have had the misfortune of picking up The Sun on Saturday.

‘Lucky you’ springs to mind when considering the article I read.

I will explain to all of you blissfully ignorant readers that according to The Sun, rock ’n’ roll is dead and the Brit awards are now boring to watch.

In fact, the article went on to accuse Emeli Sande of being uninteresting in comparison with former artists such as Noel Gallagher and Geri Halliwell.

Where do I even begin with my rant about how ridiculous this is?

Emeli Sande is a multi-award winning musician and studied a degree in medicine before turning to music.

The young Scottish singer also performed at the Olympic closing ceremony, a testament to her ability to represent our nation positively.

What better example could she set to young viewers?

Secondly, the music industry is evolving.

Geri Halliwell and Noel Gallagher were popular in the 1990s.

I was a toddler when they were in the charts so why is The Sun still writing stories about them?

People like different things today, as music takes new directions and new artists come under the spotlight.

Just because some of the artists of 2013 don’t stand up drunk and swear on national television, doesn’t mean they are boring.

Surely it means things are better than before if the artists who are in the charts today take their music seriously.

Why should our awards ceremonies be publicity stunts for attention-seeking celebrities?

Also, the BRITS is an awards show – isn’t it about the most talented musicians of the year performing?

Geri Halliwell can’t sing and Noel Gallagher can’t even get on with members of his own family, neither of which are good examples to the vast range of young viewers out there.

So perhaps next time The Sun should have a rethink.

Instead of saying the BRITS are boring without certain celebrities, perhaps they should tell the truth and say: “The BRITS are better these days without publicity stunts and pointless celebrities.
