A WOMAN out walking two dogs has been taken to a major trauma centre after being in collision with a car.

The collision happened at about 5.10pm on Tuesday afternoon on the B4214 Bromyard Road in Ledbury, just to the north of the railway bridge.

An off-duty community paramedic was on scene within moments of the incident. The community paramedic on duty in the town arrived four minutes after the call. They were backed up by an ambulance, a paramedic officer and a BASICS emergency doctor.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “On arrival crews found a woman estimated to be in her 50s who was suffering from a potentially serious head injury and a broken leg. The car at the scene had a damaged windscreen.

“Initially, the woman was semi-conscious but as ambulance staff worked on the patient, she started to come round.

“She was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and had her leg splinted. She was then taken on blue lights to the Major Trauma Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham – the doctor travelled with her.

“Ambulance staff also requested a vet be sent to the scene as there was a concern that one of the dogs was injured. It is believed the other ran off. The man driving the car was uninjured.”
