THREE youths have been charged with manslaughter after a man died following a street attack in Redditch on Sunday.

Two males aged 17 and one aged 16 are due to appear before Redditch magistrates today over the death of Nigel Shakespear, aged 50, who died in hospital on Sunday after he was attacked in Sillins Avenue as he walked home from the King's Arms pub with his partner at 12.25am. 

A post mortem carried out yesterday determined that he had died as a result of head injuries.

Two other males who were being held in connection with Mr Shakespeare’s death have been released without charge.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Love, who led the enquiry, expressed his gratitude to members of the public who have already come forward as witnesses and said their contribution has been vital to the investigation.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell, policing commander for North Worcestershire, said: “Incidents of this type are rare and Redditch is generally a very safe place.”

He urged witnesses or anyone else who has not yet come forward with information to contact detectives in the incident room at Redditch Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
