IT’s time to dust off your glad rags, put all your troubles in your old kit bag and go along to the Mayor of Worcester’s annual charity dinner.

The star turn at the event, which takes place on Friday, March 8, at the Guildhall, will be the cabaret, performed by WODYS (Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section).

This performance will feature 11 youngsters aged from 13 to 17 who have choreographed many of the dances themselves.

Proceeds from the event will be split between the Worcester Rotary Club and Mayor Councillor Roger Berry’s nominated charities – St Paul’s Hostel and Maggs Day Centre.

Coun Berry said: “This is going to be a really fun evening. I’m particularly looking forward to the cabaret performance by this talented young group.

“It is all in a good cause. An increasing number of people are facing homelessness in this city, and money raised at this event will help them face a brighter future.”

Dave Skelton, business manager for WODYS, said: “It is an honour for WODYS cabaret group to be invited to perform at the mayor’s charity night. We are currently in rehearsal for our July production of the musical Copacabana and I am grateful that our youngsters have taken time out from that and responded to the mayor’s invitation.”

The event will include a grand draw, tombola and auction, with lots including a Claud Butler bike and tea at the House of Commons with Robin Walker MP.

Guests are invited to dress up as their favourite character from the musicals or in black tie.
