GRITTERS are on stand-by as sleet or wet snow is forecast for later today.

MET office forecasts are predicting rain will turn wintry during the afternoon and may be falling as sleet or snow by 5pm.

But the snow is not expected to accumulate and whether it be sleet, rain or snow it is expected to ease by midnight.

With temperatures then expected to fall close to freezing the fleet of Worcestershire County Council gritters are ready to treat the road if required.

Jon Fraser, Worcestershire County Council's Highways Manager, said: "Although present forecasts don't indicate road surface temperatures will drop as low as freezing overnight tonight, it's still a possibility so we will be keeping an eye on the situation to ensure that if we do need to go out to grit, our teams are ready to go as soon as this is required to ensure our roads are the best they can be for our residents and businesses in the weather conditions."

Further light rain and sleet is forecast for tomorrow morning.
