IN our next three games, we have London Welsh at Sixways, Sale Sharks away and then Leicester Tigers at home and wins in those games would put us right up where we want to be in the Aviva Premiership table.
I should be fine for Friday night’s clash with London Welsh, though, we just need to get my ankle to settle so the inflammation can go down.
I came down awkwardly on it from a line-out and I couldn’t put any weight through it so, disappointingly, I had to come off in the first-half of our Amlin Challenge Cup game at Perpignan on Saturday.
We fully respect London Welsh. I know Sale had a few days off in the week before they played them at home and took them lightly, but the Exiles went on to win that game.
Welsh are a quality side with a big pack of forwards and that win at Sale gave them the belief they needed to be a tough side in the Premiership.
When the league fixtures were being put together we were handed a trip to the Kassam Stadium on the final day of the season, so maybe someone thought that would be a relegation battle.
I don’t agree with that, though, and I can’t see them being down there at the end of the season — they have turned a few heads this year.
As for us, we are still looking for a top-half finish and we aren’t battling for scraps here and there or keeping an eye out for other teams’ results.
We are out of the Amlin Challenge Cup now for all intents and purposes, there is no way Perpignan will not take maximum points from their remaining games with Gernika and Rovigo.
We need to put that competition to bed now and learn from it.
The lads were all disappointed to lose in Perpignan and frustrated by the chances we created, but failed to finish off.
Then, the try they scored came from a stupid mistake by us.
When you go to places like Perpignan, it is all about accuracy — they have a great record at home and we ran them really close.
We have a good attitude away from home these days and we are solid at Sixways — if you can win your home games and pick up three or four wins on the road, you will be in the Premiership top four.
We haven’t looked ahead to the Sale game too much yet, but I know for a fact they will be targeting our visit as a must-win game. They will be a different team to the one beaten 62-0 by Toulon at the weekend — they will be fighting for their lives and if they don’t start winning their home games, they will be relegated.
