A WORCESTERSHIRE school has issued a warning to parents after a person claiming to be a former student tried to set up meetings with pupils via Facebook.

Bredon Hill Middle School became concerned about the safety of pupils, whose ages range from 10 to 13 and alerted parents to a potentially dangerous situation in a recent edition of its Horizon newsletter.

It informed parents that it had come to their attention a member of the public had set up a Facebook account in the name of ‘Chrystal Clear’, claiming to be an ex-pupil.

They added it was believed this person had tried to persuade users of the social networking site to meet them. The school does not allow pupils to access social network websites on its premises but the global site is used by many at home.

Debbie West, deputy headteacher, said: “We were informed by a concerned parent a Facebook account had been set up by someone claiming to be an ex-pupil.

“We understand this person had been trying to make contact with some of our children on Facebook at home.

"Children’s internet safety is of paramount importance whether at home or at school. This is why we felt it necessary to alert parents.

"We always encourage our pupils to be sensible and safe when using a computer.”

West Mercia Police said they were aware of the situation. Call police on 101 if you can help.
