A CHARITY providing services for blind and partially sighted people is in urgent need of volunteers to meet increased demand.

Sight Concern Worcestershire is appealing for receptionists and helpers in their aids and equipment room at their base in the Bradbury Centre, Sansome Walk, Worcester.

Full training will be given for both roles and people only need to commit a few hours a week.

More than 100 people attend the centre every week and enjoy a range of support from social activities to training in how to cook or use computers with sight loss.

Centre manager, Mel Smith, said: “We are only asking people to give a few hours, one morning or afternoon week. Just a small donation of time can make a huge difference in helping us reach more people.”

Mrs Smith added: “One of our centre users recently said, ‘I had no idea there was so much equipment to help me to do things - simple things like making a cup of tea were terrifying but now I have a gadget that tells me when the cup is getting full. Sight Concern has helped give me my independence back.’”

One of the charity’s volunteers, Josie Passey, said: ”I love volunteering at Sight Concern, I look forward to going every week, they do an amazing job helping blind and partially sighted people learn how to do things differently and get their confidence back.”
