REVIEW:

AVENUE Q is a musical about the hopeless characters of the downtown New York street that is the fabulous non pc Broadway hit featuring puppets that include Princeton, Kate Monster, Lucy the Slut and the irrepressible Trekkie Monster.

Everyone can relate to the storyline of graduate Princeton who asks what use is a BA degree in English when you’re trying to get by with no job and how do you pay the bills?

Life sucks, what’s your purpose and the meaning of life are all confronted and addressed by the adorable puppets and the exceptional actors.

The show apart from being hilarious from beginning to end is incredibly thought provoking as the real life issues of race, sex, internet porn and coming out are all issues that are tackled.

Trekkie a huge hairy monster is obsessed with the internet, which he tells us, is great for porn.

Relationships are tested as Princeton’s girlfriend sweet Kate Monster and her rival Lucy the Slut battle for his affection and the coming out of Rod with his friend Nicky.

Songs including It Sucks to be Me, A Little Bit Racist and There’s a Fine Fine Line reflect what this show is all about.

There is never a dull moment in this slick, fast paced cool musical – everyone left the theatre laughing and smiling – a totally different kind of musical, one I adored.

Avenue Q runs until Saturday, 28th May at the Bristol Hippodrome.
