FAT cats, small cats, dancing cats, colourful cats, acrobatic cats they were all in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats from the early 80's.
Having never seen Cats I was uncertain what to expect suffice to say Cats, Cats, Cats and plenty of them. It's different to any other musical show I have seen, the show is a singing, dancing, musical spectacular without a strong storyline or certainly not one that I noticed.
Jellicle Cats meet at the Jellicle Ball on their one special night of the year, Old Deuteronomy decides who will be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
Memory is the iconic song of the show which the old girl Grizabella sang beautifully as she stood alone in the moonlight which made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Mr Mistoffelees is the other crowd pleaser.
The set is spectacular, the choreography is fab-u-lous and the cat like movements of every member of the cast were purr-fect. Amazing costumes, excellent makeup ensured these cats were the cats whiskers - with names like Carbucketty, Tantomile, Skimbleshanks, Rum Tum Tugger, Mungojerrie, Griddlebone and Jennyanydots there is no time for cat napping.
I am not a great fan of cats as I am allergic to them, however, I loved these.
Cats runs until Saturday, 26th October at the Bristol Hippodrome.
