STARLIGHT Express hit the West End stage in March 1984 some 29 years ago, this updated and revamped Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is about railways trains competing in a race to become the ultimate champion performed entirely on roller skates.

Revolving around Rusty the 'steam' train up against more current and up to date engines out to capture and win the heart of his girl first class carriage 'Pearl'.

Every inch of the Bristol Hippodrome stage is used as these outstanding skaters produce noteworthy performances that are full of colour, vibrancy and stunts whilst delivering endless songs with U.N.C.O.U.P.L.E.D. being a highlight not forgetting There's a Light at the End of the Tunnel and Starlight Express.

Whilst the performances of Kristofer Harding (Rusty) and Amanda Coutts (Pearl) were excellent Poppa, the old steam train played by Lothair Eaton had the audience in the palm of his hand.

During the racing you pop on your 3D glasses given to you as you entered the theatre to see some amazing effects.

Amusing moment during the evening - Rusty at a very low point in the show was shouted at by a male in the audience 'Come on Rusty, pick yourself you've got a lovely audience' a wry smile from Rusty followed, not usually pc tonight it somehow added to the occasion.

This is great family entertainment the show runs until Saturday, 6th April.
