MORE than 800 competitors from 130 crews will be lining up for the Worcester Head of the River regatta on the Severn at Pitchcroft on Saturday.
The event will be split into two divisions, with the first entrants getting under way at 11.30am and the second from 2.30pm.
Worcester Rowing Club will be entering four crews, while Hereford RC (eight), Bewdley RC (two) will feature as well as crews from the Evesham and Upton clubs.
The regatta will take place over a four-and-a-quarter mile course along the River Severn from The Camp at Grimley to Diglis in the city.
Many local schools have entered crews too, with the King's School Worcester sending six boats and the Royal Grammar School and Alice Ottley having seven.
The event is popular with school crews because it is the last major regatta before the National Schools Head of the River, which takes place on the boat race course on the River Thames, in two weeks time.
A fortnight after that, the London Head of the River takes place along the same course and many crews at tomorrow's Worcester race will be finalising their preparations for that.
